Photography (please see framed photos for sale below)
Sandy was born and raised in Victoria BC has been taking photographs since the age of 12 when she received her first plastic camera that looked like an SLR. As a young adult she bought a Yashica FX 3 and took courses from Jorgen Svensen in portraiture and outdoor photography. She attended seminars and classes with Freeman Patterson and Sherman Hines. She also appreciates the fine instruction she received from locals such as John Bailey and Ken Bowen. While playing clarinet in the Kamloops Symphony Sandy was able to participate in several Photographic shows and also have some of her photos used for promoting the Symphony, in posters and brochures. After a move to Abbotsford BC, she won The Province Newspaper’s 2nd Annual Photo Contest in the Pet Category, with judges Artist Toni Onley, Ballerina Karen Kain, and Filmaker Sandy Wilson
Next came an all encompassing 30 year career as a high school band director and music educator back in Victoria, and there was not a lot of time to take photos other than to record family/ school events and holidays.
Sandy is now retired from teaching but does still play clarinet on occasion but she is also currently learning the french horn and plays in several concert bands in the city. With more time Sandy has been out with her Nikon D7100 and taking a variety of photos. She enjoys “getting in close” to see a world that might remain unnoticable. She likes simplicity in her photos, and strives for beauty in composition and colour and/or texture. She likes to find the extraordinary in the ordinary.
